About the Stamford Kwanzaa Association
Habari Gani! Kwanzaa!
The Stamford Kwanzaa Association, founded in 1999 by Mrs. Josephine Fulcher-Anderson, Mr. E. Phillip McKain, and Ms. Deborah Miller is a grass roots community organization, founded on the principles of Dr. Ron Maulana Karenga, which implore us to bring good into the world.
The purpose of the Stamford Kwanzaa Association is to provide the citizens of the greater Stamford area with opportunities to learn about the African-American cultural celebration of Kwanzaa through the arts. Our association envisions art as a vehicle through which culture is transmitted, information exchanged, individual expression projected, and reciprocity facilitated. The major goal of our association is to provide a forum through which the participants can learn about the origin of Kwanzaa, how Kwanzaa is celebrated and how to create items for ones own Kwanzaa celebrations, and realize ways to practice the principles of Kwanzaa through the year.
We have provided the forum for you to celebrate and reflect on the meaning and history of Kwanzaa. Now it is time to join in by participating in this great Umoja (unity) celebration in your own special way. We encourage you to read the materials provided and explore the variety of media available at one of the branches of your local library. Learn about the rich culture and heritage of the African Diaspora and the celebration of Kwanzaa!
